Travis County is unique in many ways, including property tax collections. Travis County is the ONLY county in all of Texas that does its own collections enforcement. All of the other counties hire outside law firms to handle the collection of their delinquent tax accounts. For this reason, your delinquent tax bill may not rise as quickly as in other parts of Texas because, unlike the other counties which assess the collection fee on July 1st of each year, Travis County assesses the collection fee once they initiate the delinquent tax lawsuit. This can be many months past July 1. For this reason, it’s possible that the first year tax bill will only rise 12% in interest charges and another 12% in penalties during the first year.

Travis County offers a number of payment plan options including a quarterly plan, a monthly plan, and a deferral plan for homestead owners permanently disabled or over 64 years old.
